The Ministry of National Defence has been appointed as a notifying authority under the Cyber Resilience Act.
What does this mean?
The EU Cyber Resilience Act sets out horizontal cybersecurity requirements for products with digital elements. Its aim is to ensure that more secure hardware and software products enter the European Union market and that manufacturers systematically manage cyber risks throughout the product lifecycle, from design to end-of-life.
This regulation is particularly important for strengthening the security of supply chains, reducing systemic cyber risks and increasing the trust of consumers and organisations in digital products.
Under the new regulation, certain higher-risk categories of products, such as password managers, software designed to detect and remove malware, products that perform a virtual private network (VPN) function and other products that perform security functions, will have to be assessed by independent third-party conformity assessment bodies before they enter the market.
What will be the role of the Ministry of National Defence?
In accordance with the adopted resolution, the Ministry of National Defence will adopt decisions on the appointment of conformity assessment bodies to carry out conformity assessment procedures for products with digital elements and will notify the appointed bodies to the European Commission and other Member States of the European Union.
The decision also expands the responsibilities of the Ministry of Economy and Innovation and the Lithuanian Accreditation and Standardization Agency, supplementing their functions with the area of conformity assessment of products with digital elements.
