Compromised: reported risks & how to protect yourself
We track companies and organizations reported to us as security or fraud risks, review every report, and act on what we can verify. This page explains how to protect yourself and how to report a concern.
How to protect yourself
- Be cautious of anyone contacting you claiming to represent an authorised financial firm — clone scams (impersonating a real, legitimate firm) are common. Verify independently rather than trusting the contact details they give you.
- If a financial business contacts you unexpectedly, don't use the phone number or email they provide — look the firm up independently and use the contact details from an official regulator checker instead.
- In the UK, the FCA maintains an official register you can check before dealing with any financial firm: FCA Firm Checker →
- If something feels off — unsolicited contact, pressure to move quickly, requests for payment via crypto or wire transfer to an account that doesn't match the firm's name — treat it as a red flag and verify before acting.
